Theatre Architecture Mapping: Catalogue of Berlin Performing Spaces

Abstract

<p>The digital reproduction of the theatre architecture collection of the Technische Universität Berlin provides extensive documentation for research and contextualisation. With more than 10,000 photographs, drawings and other materials, it offers a unique insight into the panorama of 20th century Central European theatre construction.</p> <p>Based on these sources, we are creating a theatre mapping of Berlin, along with a catalogue featuring about 250 venues, both historical and still existing. In eight time periods the dynamic change of the performing spaces of the German capital is shown, allowing a comparison of the architectural, scenic and technical structure, as well as analysing it in the context of urban development.</p>

<p>La reproducción digital de la colección de arquitectura teatral de la Technische Universität de Berlín proporciona una amplia documentación para la investigación y contextualización. Con más de 10.000 fotos, dibujos y materiales diversos, ofrece una muestra única del panorama de la construcción teatral centroeuropea del siglo xx.</p> <p>A partir de estas fuentes, generamos una cartografía teatral de Berlín, acompañada de un catálogo en el que se presentan cerca de 250 espacios, tanto históricos como aún existentes. En ocho tramos temporales se muestra el vivo cambio de los espacios escénicos de la capital alemana, lo que permite comparar la estructura arquitectónica, escénica y técnica, así como analizarla en el marco del desarrollo urbano.</p>
