Abstract

During Peter Brook's stay in Barcelona, owing to the performance of his version of the opera Carmen, the English director had a conversation with the students and teachers of the Institut del Teatre. For more than an hour and after Núria Espert's introductory words, Brook exposed his points of view about the stated questions. The main subjects discussed by Peter Brook were: the training of the actors, the human attitude of creators and its reflection on the theatrical show, the importance of the sense of humour in the observation of behaviour, the relativity of the clichés of popular and elitist theatre, the real importance of scenic elements externa! to the actor and the use of improvisations in the creation of characters. Here we transcribe his words literally.
